Hi Folks, Yes, it's all finally happening! The Legacy CD is finished and the accompanying DVD will be a full swag of interestingness for you all, I hope. As well as 15 of my best political songs from over the years on CD, the DVD has an 8-minute music video of "Black Carrie", live footage from Woodford Folk Festival and the Harp in Sydney, a slideshow of weird and wonderful pictures I took on my travels around the world, and some beautifully inspirational videos from international environment groups. You can see the video at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyI5hAvkIug For the title track, I've re-written my 1992 song "Legacy" to bring it up to date with current global events and concerns, and included a new song "Black Snake Range" about my lovely mountains here. In addition, I've re-recorded "So Lucky" finally to my satisfaction and also "No Way In, No Way Out" as the original version from 1991 was a too poor-quality a recording to put next to the other material. It's OK on Archive Vol.2, because they're all of a piece, but right next to the spanky recordings I made later, it sounded a bit tatty. But the new version I'm very happy with. Huge thanks to Mal Webb and Peter Haydon for all their help in recording The songlist is a follows:
Legacy 2010 Some of these songs have been unavailable for years, as the albums there were on have been out of print, so I'm very happy to be able to make them available again.
Gigs.... Penelope Solo: Legacy CD/DVD Launch Tour Greens Fundraiser Concert - Wollongong Greens Fundraiser - Brunswick Legacy CD/DVD Launch and Greens Fundraiser - Sydney Greens Fundraiser - Daylesford Legacy CD/DVD Launch and Greens Fundraiser
Greens Fundraiser - Sunshine Stay tuned for other CD launch tours around the country in 2010. Penelope and Green Politics Now folks, I've never been backward in coming forward about my politics and the tours around this album will be no exception. Put bluntly, much of the money raised by this album will be going into The Greens. This is partly because a dear friend, long-time supporter and Greens campaigner, the lovely Stephen Luntz has chosen to sink several thousand of his own dollars into financing the project, and partly because I think it's a good thing to do as I believe Green politics are more important than ever and I'm damn grateful that there's folks out there willing to get down in the dirty world of electoral politics and give it their all. I haven't yet (though Stephen's been working on me). Interestingly, Stephen is funding the project out of royalties for a law textbook his father wrote - the very same one I've been sweating over for the last year or so - so there's a nice little feedback loop for you. And yes, I paid full price for my own copy! So many (but not all) off the launch tour gigs will be Greens Fundraisers. 70% to them, 30% to feeding me. Greens members around the country are warmly invited to contact me if you'd like me to do a gig in your area and to raise some dosh for your local branch.. And if you'd like to have the music but you're not comfy about financing the Greens with your purchase, that's fine, too. If you buy one directly from me via mail-order, the money will go to financing my law degree instead - sound fair? Lotsa love, Penelope.
Totally Gourdgeous - 2010 In other news Totally Gourgeous won the Best Live Act award Nominated by the Folk Alliance Australia Members for 2008 - whoo-hoo! AND we also won the Mary Poppins Infinite Song Contest at the National Folk Festival in 2009 for our rendition of "Jolly Holiday" Who said we weren't a serious band!
